Cofete Beach, the adventure to discover an endless stretch of sand and a unique natural landscape.

The Cofete Beach, located in Pájara on the Jandía peninsula, to the south of Fuerteventura, is a gigantic stretch of sand over 13 kilometers long and 50 meters wide. This beach of golden sand is one of the most sought-after spots by the more adventurous tourists visiting the island.

The Cofete Beach is simply spectacular. It is surrounded by the Jandía Natural Park, and indeed, Cofete seems like a “hypnotizing place.” Its vastness, beautiful landscape, and difficult access make Cofete Beach a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the magic of the island. There are no services nearby, and it is not very recommended for little ones, as the waves and southern winds can be quite strong. However, if you're a surfing enthusiast, Cofete is your paradise.

Cofete is not the typical beach for spending a day in the sun with all the comforts we are accustomed to. Getting to Cofete Beach is an adventure, both in your car journey and the walk to the parking area. Away from urban areas, Cofete is situated between the islet of Sietes Viudas and Roque del Morro. You’re in for an hour of driving on unpaved roads, but it will be worth it.

An Experience in Cofete

The enormous walls of the Jandía Natural Park, reaching heights of 800 meters, add a spectacular touch to the vast Cofete beach. It’s one of those places you must visit in Fuerteventura! The truth is that not many people know about it, as getting there is a bit tricky. However, the solitude and vastness of Cofete beach combine to give you one of the best photos of your adventure on the island.

Exploring History from the Cofete Cemetery to the Enigmatic Villa Winter

Cofete Beach offers an experience of solitude and tranquility, but it is also a place rich in history and culture worth exploring. Below, we present some points of interest that will enhance your adventure in this beautiful area.

  • Cofete Village: This small 19th-century settlement gives us a glimpse into the lives of fishermen, shepherds, and farmers who inhabited the area. Its homes, though modest, tell stories of a past filled with hard work and effort.
  • Cofete Cemetery: Undoubtedly, one of the most surprising cemeteries in Spain. Its strategic location was chosen to facilitate access compared to the distant cemetery of Pájara. Here, gravestones, wooden crosses, and sand are enclosed within a small wall just 40 centimeters high, creating a unique and evocative landscape.
  • Villa Winter: In this corner of Cofete, history and mystery intertwine. Villa Winter, an imposing mansion located one kilometer from the village, was built by engineer Gustav Winter, who has been considered a German spy during World War II. This mansion holds secrets that may never be revealed, making it an intriguing place for history lovers.
